Vesuvius in Eruption
My favorite painting at the Huntington Museum was the Vesuvius in Eruption because it does it so detailed and amazing. This painting really is a masterpiece by the painter. The painters name is Joseph Wright. Joseph Wright traveled in Italy from 1773 to 1775. In Wrights lifetime it is thought that he has painted Vesuvius about thirty times. Joseph Wright was born on September 3, 1734 and died on August 29, 1797. The painting was painted around 1770. He painted this image by hearing about the eruption from others. I really enjoy this painting because it is amazing how Wright put so much detail into the painting without even seeing it in person. I also enjoy this image because it does not even look like a painting, it almost looks like a picture. I am so glad I saw this painting at the Huntington Museum because if I never saw this I would have never seen the amazing image. There are still some ruins of Pompeii at Mount Vesuvius. Mount Vesuvius is 17,000 years old and is still active. Mount Vesuvius is the only volcano on the European Mainland to have erupted within the last 100 years. I hope I will be able to go here one day and see the volcano, I also hope I can go back to the Museum to see this painting again.
