I looked down at my phone, and up popped an alert saying, “Low Battery Alert” which was last thing I needed. It was April 2nd and I was on a plane to Sydney, Australia. After fifteen hours of flying I finally arrived and took a cab to my hotel. The next day I woke up and met with some friends who had arrived earlier that day. We had plans to go on a tour of the “Land Down Under.” We took a shuttle that took us far out of Sydney. When we arrived we were supplied with a backpack full of supplies such as water, water filter, a tarp, rope, and caned food incase we got separated from the group. Once it was time to start the tour a tour guide told us some safety precautions and at that moment I zoned out looking at this cute kangaroo hopping down the road. We started our tour and followed are tour guide and he told us all about Australia and its wildlife and the history. He started telling us how they had some of the most poisonous insects that usually only come out at night. All of a sudden I saw something in the distance, I said to the tour guide to hold on but he must not have heard me so they slowly kept walking. I got towards what I saw and it turned out to just be a bush. I turned around and they were way further then I expected and all of a sudden a huge cloud of dust swallowed them. I ran towards it yelling. Night slowly fell and no sign of my group. I got nervous because of the insects that are out at night. I quickly thought about my phone and I took it out of my pocket, wiped the dirt of the screen and looked down at my phone, and up popped an alert saying, “Low Battery Alert” which was last thing I needed. It was now six o’clock and I looked at my phone and the screen slowly went dim and shut off. I looked in the backpack and had some caned beans and I took the tarp and placed it down. It was extremely windy and loud. I thought I heard a helicopter and realized it was just the wind until a light shined on me. At that moment I had hope and down came a man who called me and he held me in his arms and we stated to ascend towards the helicopter. They took me back to Sydney where they treated me in a hospital just in case I was hurt. I then went back to my hotel and I only had four days left. I used those days wisely and spent good quality time with my friends and told them my story and we then went zip lining where I lucky did not get lost. Australia now holds a special place in my heart.
