Informational Text
1.) What is informational text?
Informational text is a text that gives certain information about things.
2.) How is informational text different from literature or literary text? Compare/Contrast informational text to literary text - Provide an example in your compare/contrast diagram, paragraph, etc. (your choice)
Informational text is is different from literary text because informational text is information about someones life ect. and literary text is mostly about fake things like dogs talking or people flying.
3.) What are text features?
Text features are titles captions photographs ect. they tell us information about what is happening or what is going to happen
4.) Skim through "Phineas Gage" and identify the text features reviewed in class and included in this informational text. Use the listed features to help you identify them in the text. Once you have identified the features in the text note the page number. In addition, provide an explanation/purpose of the feature and how it helps the reader. NOTE: Not all features reviewed in class are included in "Phineas Gage." In this case, define the purpose of the feature, no page numbers are necessary.

- Guide Words: Guide Words are words that are at the top of a page that help you find the right page
- Title Page: The title page of a book is the front cover with an illustration or a photograph and the title of the book. pg.1
- Table of Contents: The Table of Contents is in the front of a book that shows where things are located in the book like chapters. pg.4
- Index: The index is usually in the back of the book showing where different words and important information is.(pg.47)
- Glossary: The glossary is found in the back of the book and has definitions of vocabulary words. pg.44
- Heading, subheading: A heading is usually the title of that chapter and tells you what it is about. pg.38
- Keywords: Keywords are usually important words in the book
- Photographs/Illustrations - Page 16-17, etc. - Helps the reader understand something by looking at it from the inside. Gives the reader an image to support the information provided in the text.
